In it, they resolutely distance themselves from violence, war, destruction, aggression and all forms of attacks on free, critical thinking and the cultural assets associated with it.

Rather, they make a strong case for their mission to work fundamentally for culture, art and nature/environment and to share their knowledge of their treasures with other people. Persons in need of protection, asylum seekers, provisionally admitted persons with residence status F, N and S as well as recognised refugees (with ID B) can visit the museums and their exhibitions listed free of charge. City stories carved in stone

28 May 2021

The stone monuments behind the Barfüsserkirche from the collection of the Historical Museum are newly exhibited and described. The monuments come from a wide variety of places in the city. Carved in sandstone between the 15th and 18th centuries, the reliefs were placed on the walls of official buildings, churches, inns and private houses. Skilfully carved by stonemasons, they bear witness to the history of the houses, their builders or honour deceased citizens of the town. Often they are the only evidence of a building that has disappeared from the townscape.

Collaborating closely with Basel Historical Museum, researchers at the University of Basel are currently engaged in making the Basel Cathedral Treasury digitally accessible. The results of their work will serve as a basis for interdisciplinary projects aimed at probing the opportunities and possibilities opened up by computer-assisted methods in the humanities. They will also be made available to the wider public at the same time. Objects that for a thousand years have been part of Basel’s history can thus be experienced in a completely new way. Tagung «Basilea – Burgundia»

31. Mai 2018

Das Basler Münster wurde am 11. Oktober 1019 gemäss alter Überlieferung in Gegenwart Heinrichs II. geweiht.

Folgende Fragen stehen u.a. zur Debatte:
Was bezwecken Herrscher mit derartigen Weiheakten?

Ort: Departement für Geschichte
Tagungsdaten: 7. bis 9. Juni 2018

Wichtige Information: Die Teilnehmerzahl ist begrenzt. Erforderliche Anmeldung ausschliesslich bei jessika.nowak(at)unibas.ch.
