Basel Historical Museum with its three sites is widely regarded as the most important museum of cultural history on the Upper Rhine. It collects, conserves, records and researches objects and artefacts of relevance to our cultural heritage for future generations, tells visitors the story of Basel, and is a place for discourse and engagement with the past, present and future.
Basel Historical Museum is showing a special exhibition on Basel during the National Socialist era.
Impressive photographs from the Ruth and Peter Herzog Collection bring that time of technical feats and hopes back to life.
In cooperation with the University Library of Basel and for the first time, we are showing an exquisite selection of letters by exiled authors from the archives of the feature editor Otto Kleiber.
In our online shop, we offer you publications as well as other selected products.
The richly illustrated book accompanying the exhibition «Leaps in Time» is published in German and English.
Each of our three sites is a museum in its own right with a modern and unique collection on a specific theme. Since all three are located within easy walking distance of each other, holders of a Combi-Ticket can visit all three museums in one day.
Due to the protective measures against the corona virus, we do not hand out headphones and tablets. You are kindly asked to use your own equipment.
Due to the Covid-19 protection concept of the Basel Historical Museum, there may be waiting times when visiting the exhibition «Grenzfälle – Basel 1933–1945», especially on weekends. We recommend that you allow sufficient time for your visit and if possible put it on a working day. We thank you for your understanding.
In order to protect themselves and others, we recommend our visitors to wear a mouth and nose mask during the event.
