Description

This hairdresser’s chair comes from Charly Hottiger’s salon at Rebgasse 53 in Basel. When Charles Hottiger had to close his salon because of building alterations in 2008, he donated a number of hairdressing and shaving implements to the museum, some of which date back to the 1920s. This hairdresser’s chair made by Ritz was purchased second-hand in the early 1950s by Hottiger’s uncle. With its oil pressure pump for height adjustment, it was a comparatively modern model for its time and served its owner well for several decades.
