Three knitted wall coverings

Three tapestries (knitted carpets), whose motifs are based on works by the French painter Jean-Baptiste Huet (1745-1811), are set into the oak paneling of the visiting room. The pictorial program shows (from left to right) various scenes from rural life: Les Adieux du Fermier (the farewell of the farmer), L`Arrivée de la Fermière (the arrival of the farmer's wife), La Cueillette des Cerises (the cherry harvest). The tapestries were specially ordered by the then owners of the Segerhof from the Grellet manufactory in Aubusson, France. The orientation towards the French style of furnishing expressed in them was very common in the Basel bourgeoisie of the 18th century.
