The pendulum clock with quarter-hour and hour strikes bears the signature "Daniel Pfaff A Liestel". The Basel clockmaker Daniel Pfaff (1749-1834) received his apprenticeship as a journeyman with the Basel clockmaker Johann Georg Krampe (1729-1790). Later, he worked as an independent watchmaker in Liestal, which is probably where this watch was made. In addition to this activity, Pfaff was also a hospital administrator and court president.
