Eight alleyways used to lead to the fish market. In the great central fountain live fish was kept fresh. With the area’s total reconstruction, the old lanes disappeared, making room for new streets. When in 1908/09 the Fish Market Well had to be moved a few metres, the original well column, now battered by the elements, was replaced by a copy. The original is exhibited today in the Barfüsserkirche.
