Gold enamel clock with overcase with gold piqué on leather
Description
The case back shows in fine enamel painting a scene from ancient mythology: Venus and Cupid in Vulcan's forge. The case interior depicts a classical landscape with a body of water and a ruined temple. On the dial there is Diana hunting. Besides Christian motifs, ancient mythological representations are popular motifs for enamel watches. The leather over-case is decorated with gold embroidery, so-called "gold piqué". For this purpose, the leather is provided with holes through which golden wires are then pulled.
