Tulip clock
Description
Three petals, finely crafted from rock crystal and set in partially gilded silver, form the case of this clock in the shape of a tulip. Tulips were known in Europe since the mid-16th century and were highly coveted and exceptionally expensive flowers well into the 17th century. The dial shows an engraved landscape view. Jean-Baptiste Duboule was the son of Martin Duboule (1583-1639), the first Geneva master watchmaker known by name, from whom several watches have survived. His son Jean-Baptiste was a master watchmaker in Geneva since 1638.
