Caricature by Niggi Münch (1775-1841) and Bobbi Keller (1771-1839)

he caricature shows the two Basel city originals Niggi Münch (1775-1843) and Bobbi Keller (1771-1839) walking hand in hand through the Spalenvorstadt. They were recognized by the rod and fly-whisk of long horse-tail hair they carried. The locksmith's son Niggi Münch came to the hospital after the death of his mother, where he rendered useful services as a street mop. Mentally somewhat retarded, he, like his companion, was often subjected to the ridicule of the boys of Basel. The baker's son Bobbi Keller lived on the corner opposite the Kornhaus, where the old trade school now stands. Based on this watercolor, Anton Sohn (1769-1840) modeled a Zizenhausen terracotta figure of this duo (to be seen next door in display case 1, no. 8) after which two bronze figures were created at the Zizenhausen Fools' Fountain.
