Materials such as cardboard and paper were used in the field of toys not only as the basis for printed products such as card and board games, picture books and paper theater. Much more often than it seems today, there were also stand-up figures made of painted paper, buildings made of cardboard and figures made of papier-mâché. However, the fragility of the material has meant that comparatively little of it has survived.
