Bust of the "Roi de Rome" (1811-1832)
Description
The bust depicts Napoleon Francis Joseph Charles Bonaparte (1811-1832), the year-old son of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). He was the only legitimate male descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte. As imperial crown prince of France, he bore the title "King of Rome" ("Roi de Rome") since 1811. After the final abdication of his father, he was titular Emperor of the French as Napoleon II from June 22 to July 7, 1815. This claim ended with the restoration of the kingdom by Louis XVIII (r. 1814-1824).
