Room 206

BIG SALON

This main room of the "Bel Étage" was the prelude to an "enfilade", i.e. a series of reception rooms
of reception rooms. The original wall division with fluted Corinthian pilasters
(wall pilasters) distinguishes the room as the most splendid hall of the entire house. Here
the visitor of the house finds the spatial sequence of entrance hall (pillars
tuscan order), staircase and vestibule (Ionic order) and reception hall (Corinthian order)
(Corinthian order) reaches its sensuous climax through the heightening of the column orders
according to the classical architectural doctrine.
The furniture did not originally come from the Haus zum Kirschgarten. Rather belonged
the blue upholstered seating and the console tables next to the entrance, as well as the
Murano chandelier belonged to the furnishings of the large salon of the "Haus zum Goldenen
Löwen" (formerly in the Aeschenvorstadt). The elegant furniture, however, fits chronologically and
the classicist furnishings of the Haus zum Kirschgarten.
