Tapestries with rural scenes

The tapestries depict genre scenes from peasant life in the manner of Flemish painter David Teniers (1610-1690). They are cheerful country scenes depicting children playing, peasants dancing and dining, shepherding scenes, and children catching birds. These artfully woven rural idylls found favor with the upper middle classes.
The world-famous tapestry manufacturers in Aubusson also supplied the French royal court for a time.
