Seven petitions to the Man of Sorrows
Description
The image that opens the prayer of the "Seven Supplications" shows Christ enthroned as the Man of Sorrows, crowned with thorns and bleeding from his wounds. Flanking angels carry the instruments of his Passion: cross, nails, lance and whip. The fixed gaze of Christ, the deep red blood and the display of the instruments of torture confront the viewer with his suffering as they pray for his help.
