Prayer as a noble occupation

Description

This layman's breviary probably belonged to Guy de Brimeu, a close confidant of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. On the left, Guy kneels in prayer before the crucifixion of St. Andrew. While the fine details of the martyr scene attract attention, the person praying seems to be looking more at St. Andrew in the initial on the opposite side. In this way, the captivating image draws our attention to the written prayer in honor of the apostle Andrew.
