Projective testing procedures
Description
At the beginning of the 20th century, psychoanalytic theories led to the development of new testing procedures. These were designed to capture personality structures and the background to mental disorders. The test subjects had to react spontaneously to images, words or faces. The basic idea is that the test subject projects unconscious content into the interpretation and the test result thus represents a projection of the problems. Complicated evaluation methods were then used to draw conclusions about the type of disorder. Today, such projective methods are rarely used in psychiatric clinics.
