Assessment of cognitive abilities

Description

Since the early days of modern psychiatry, intelligence tests have been used as standard to determine possible cognitive impairments. The aim is to determine whether the impairments are caused by a reduced level of intelligence or are associated with mental disorders such as depression, dementia, ADHD or autism spectrum disorder. In the field of forensics, the tests can provide information about limited or absent criminal responsibility.

The Salzesel-Test - A donkey carrying salt was crossing a river when it slipped and fell into the water. He got up lighter because the salt had melted in the water. He was very happy about the adventure. The next day, as he reached the bank of the same river with a load of sponges, he thought that if he let himself fall again, he would get up lighter, and he deliberately slipped. But when the sponges pumped out the water, he couldn't get up again and drowned.
One remedy is not suitable for all cases.
