Pipe with meerschaum head
Description
In common parlance, "meerschaum" refers to the mineral sepiolite, a quite rare magnesium silicate. It is easy to work and porous. The porous structure makes it very suitable as a pipe material, as the moisture produced during smoking is absorbed. After prolonged use, the pipes therefore take on a brownish color.
