Merchant's store
Description
This store is a unique piece and one of the oldest preserved. It comes from the Zellweger family in Trogen (Canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden). This very wealthy family dominated large parts of the linen and cotton trade in eastern Switzerland in the 18th century. This explains why the right half of the store is filled with bales of cloth: silk, cotton and linen fabrics as well as ribbons are for sale. At these goods, the children of the family could immerse themselves in the business world of the family and playfully prepare for their future profession.
