Goblet glass with rider with lance and young woman
Description
An allusive scene is carved on the cupola of the glass. A horseman with raised lance rides toward a young woman holding up a wreath. The text above reads "Halt . schönste . meiner . lantzen . stiel . treffe . er . hür . wie . ich . in . halten . wiel .". The so-called ring riding is a tournament sport known since the Middle Ages. However, the rings to be pierced are usually not held by humans for safety reasons. Here the representation receives by the presence of the young woman and the saying a clear allusion to the sexual act.
