Description

“See to it that you keep your good name, for that is a greater treasure than gold. Even the most virtuous life lasts but a brief while, whereas a good name endures forever.” That is the message of this tablet from the Spiesshof on Heuberg. The pious words are flanked by the coats of arms of Niklaus Rispach (d. 1572, left) and his wife, Küngolt von Offenburg (d. 1573, right), who acquired that magnificent Renaissance mansion in 1560.
The other two inscriptions place the buildings they belonged to under God’s protection, name those who built it, or record the year of its completion.
