Combination of original and replica: Lidded Cup with Knight
Description
The figure of a knight on bended knee holding a bannered lance originally adorned a vessel belonging to the Cathedral Treasury that is now presumed lost. Felix Sarasin, a burgomaster of Basel, bought the figure at auction in 1836 and his son later commissioned Ulrich Sauter to make a Staufbecher of his own invention in the Late Gothic style on which to mount it.
