Coin Production in Pictures
Description
A stained glass window describes coin making
Mint masters were usually independent entrepreneurs who produced coinage in the name of the respective minting authority. Ever since the early Middle Ages they enjoyed a high status: They were rich and usually on good terms with the local ruler and important officials at court. When Mint Master Wernher Zentgraf of Schaffhausen built a new mint in 1565, he had the process of coin making depicted on a stained glass window in detail.
