Church and monastery
Description
The construction of a larger complex came about as early as 1275–1309. The monastery won space by moving the new church further north; additional land was also purchased and the Birsig stream culverted. The northern nave of the second church subsequently received a kinked outer wall. Conversions inside the building affected the screen and eastern pillar. After the Reformation the chancel, divided off by a wooden wall, became a granary. By demolishing the monastery wall, the monastery garden became the Barfüsserplatz.
