Object 1

Canvas wallpaper

The wallpaper originally came from the first floor of a house at St. Johanns-Vorstadt 30. Divided into 15 fields, it offers the viewer various hanging arrangements of flower baskets and garlands. Between these arrangements are imaginative genre scenes and still lifes, as well as birds and butterflies in grisaille (a technique from medieval panel painting executed exclusively in gray, white, and black). The painting is attributed to the Basel painter Maximilian Neustück (1756-1834).
