Cabinet with coat of arms of Socin family

The cabinet is a particularly fine example of representative self-portrayal of an important Basel bourgeois family in the form of a private piece of furniture: the heraldic animal of the Basel Socin family, a lion striding on its hind legs with a ball, appears four times on the doors. The careful selection of veneers - for example, in the design of the lion's manes with particularly grained walnut - as well as the use of plum wood on details such as the teeth, whiskers and pupils of the lion's heads testify to the high quality of the executing workshop.
