"Basel Clock" and "Revolutionary Time"

The so-called "Basel time" or "Basel clock" was a special feature in the indication of the hours of a day. In Basel, the hours were not counted as completed hours, but as beginning hours. Compared to the clocks in the surrounding areas, the clocks in Basel went forward by one hour. in 1779, a first attempt to bring Basel in line with the customary counting of hours failed. It was finally abolished on February 1, 1798
In Paris, a calendar reform was carried out in 1792. The revolutionary calendar and the revolutionary clock with a predominantly decimal division were to apply now. However, the law for decimal day division was never implemented. The revolutionary calendar was abolished again by Napoleon I on January 1, 1806.
