1954 - Order

Description

After the Second World War, a change in presentation practices began, leading to order and focus in the exhibitions. The museum's earlier desire to display all new acquisitions had led not only to a massive problem with space but also to the impression of a "crammed antiquities repository". The new concept was inspired by the sacral architecture: the nave was to be emptied of "dispensable and superfluous things" in order to give precedence to "exquisite and noble objects of interest".
