Our history
It all started in 1536 with the Amerbach-Kabinett. Over the centuries, the collections of coins and antiques developed into the museum with its three locations. Today, the collection comprises approximately 435,000 objects.
Our museums
What we do
DiscoverApproximately 435,000 objects are presented and stored in our museums and nine depots, respectively. We regularly check and research our objects and clarify their provenance. Conservation and restoration efforts ensure that we can preserve the collection for future generations.

Library
Would you like to explore our collection in more detail? Our scientific library contains approximately 30,000 volumes dedicated to applied art, archaeology or the cultural history of Basel — aligned with the collections of the History Museum Basel.
Room hire
You can hire selected indoor and outdoor areas for your events: the courtyard of the Musikmuseum, the Foyer in the Haus zum Kirschgarten or the nave of the Barfüsserkirche. There are also separate rooms for conferences, seminars and workshops.
