To assess your loan request, we require:
- the actual loan request
- an exhibition concept (short version)
- the list of objects with inventory numbers
- (loan form)
- the facility report for the exhibition venue
The HMB lends items from its collections to other museums for special exhibitions. We are happy to assist you with selecting items even before you submit a formal loan request, and to advise you on the availability of the items you wish to borrow.
When processing a loan request, various checks must be carried out and approvals obtained, which is why certain details are required and deadlines apply.
To assess your loan request, we require:
A loan application must be submitted at least 180 days before the exhibition opens.
Upon receipt of the application, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt and, following the internal approval process, the object details including costs, insurance values and any contractual addenda.
A processing fee of CHF 200 is charged per approved item.
In addition, there are costs for conservation measures and photography (labour and materials). Furthermore, the costs for insurance, transport, packaging, courier escort, etc. are borne by the borrowing institution.
Exhibited objects may only be loaned in exceptional and well-justified cases.
Once the loan application has been approved, the loan agreement will be sent to you, and the Basel Historical Museum will arrange for the objects to be insured.
Once the Basel Historical Museum has received a copy of the loan agreement signed by the borrower, the transport arrangements and date can be agreed. A condition report is signed upon handover of the objects and upon their return.
Please address all correspondence to registratur.hmb@bs.ch.
For the reproduction of objects for catalogues, leaflets, posters or websites, please contact daniel.suter@bs.ch directly after the contract has been signed.
