Association

The Association for the Basel Historical Museum has existed since 1891, when the Historical Museum was established in the Barfüsserkirche. Since then, it has stood by the museum and supported it with great dedication in acquisitions, restorations and other major expenditure. The Association is made up of its many members, who are all committed to keeping history alive and support the museum both in spirit and financially.

Your membership fee supports the Association – and thus directly the Basel Historical Museum. The Association lends a helping hand to the Museum when additional funds are required, for example for special acquisitions, restorations, collection maintenance or major projects.

The Association funds specific, clearly defined projects at the request of the Basel Historical Museum’s management and does not allocate funds on a blanket basis

As a member, you gain exclusive insights into the museum, receive invitations to exhibition openings, enjoy the Advent drinks reception in the festively decorated Haus zum Kirschgarten, and gain an insight into the museum’s year at the association’s general meeting. You benefit from free admission to all permanent and special exhibitions at the three venues and from a reduced price for the Musée-Pass-Musées when purchased or renewed at an HMB ticket office upon presentation of your membership card. You also regularly benefit from exclusive behind-the-scenes insights – for example, during a guided tour of the storage facility.
