The wigmaker Rösler

Description

Based on a watercolor by Hieronymus Hess dated 1839, the figure of Rösler, a perruquier from Kleinbasel, was rendered in clay. The comb exposes the proud cavalier as a simple craftsman. The inscription "en grande tenue" ironizes his appearance in clothing that was considered too elegant for his station. - The back of the second figure the usual hollowing in the Zizenhausen figures: this was to dry the clay more regularly and prevent cracking in the firing.
