Sugar shaker
Description
The preciousness of cane sugar imported from the Caribbean meant that in the 18th century, the associated utensils such as sprinkling spoons, sugar bowls and shakers had an important place on the table. Since the sugar shaker was swept when in use, the openwork hood had to sit firmly on the lower part - the best way to do this was to connect it by means of a thread. In the fineness of the surface and decoration with fleurs-fines painting, this shaker approaches the preciousness of porcelain vessels, to which the gilded rims also contribute.
