Sugar caster with blue sharp fire decoration
Description
Sugar reached Europe in the 18th century via the transatlantic trade. The long transport route and the elaborate processing made it a luxury good that could only be found on the tables of the upper classes. Vessels in which sugar was offered were large and elaborately decorated. Sugar shakers of this type are already offered in the manufactory's catalog of goods from 1729 as "sugar bowls with screws": the upper part is screwed on. The openings of the hood are very cleverly included in the decoration.
