Objekt 2

Small tureen in the shape of a melon

Description

In the 18th century, melons were highly prized fruits that could only be cultivated with great effort and were therefore very expensive. An inventory from 1761 speaks of "butterdooßen in form einer melonen". So the shape of this lidded box does not suggest the contents.
