Medallions of the Imperial Age

To mark special events, the Roman emperors issued oversized, coin-like medallions. Similar medallions were also created in provincial towns.

Object description

Roman Empire. Medallions of Antoninus Pius (138–161) in the name of his wife Faustina and of Commodus (180–192), c. 140/1 and c. 187/8
