Description
Detailed examination of the violin confirmed the assumption that it was made by Nicolò Gagliano in 1780. In addition, some repairs could be made visible. However, no indication of a previous owner could be gained from the findings.
However, a breakthrough was achieved through extensive archival research: The violin's previous owner was identified. For data protection reasons, his name cannot be published, which limits the transparency of the research.
The origin of the violin before 1961 remains unclear. Although the project is officially closed, the Basel Historical Museum will continue its search for the history of the instrument.
