Portrait medallion Hans Georg Stehlin (1760-1832)

Description

Georg Stehlin (1760-1832) was born in Benken, the son of a baker. After training as an artillery sergeant, he played a leading role in the so-called "Helvetic Revolution" in 1798, which was followed by the collapse of the Ancien Régime and the Helvetic period. Stehlin, who also subsequently held important political offices, played a major role in the drafting of the Basel constitution in 1815.
