Octagonal jewelry box
Description
The box is of unusual size and preciousness, being entirely gilded and decorated with many enamel medallions. The enamel medallion on the lid depicts "Venus and Adonis", suggesting that the jewelry box was a gift of love. The jewelry box was inherited within the Le Grand family. The members of this family had come to Basel as religious refugees from Brabant (Belgium) in the late 16th century.
