Objekt 1
Octagonal equatorial sundial
Description
Augsburg clockmaker and mechanic Johann Martin Willebrand (1714-1742) took over the workshop of his father, Johann Willebrand (c. 1658-1726), which produced, among other things, wheel clocks, high-quality sundials, and astronomical instruments. The signature of this octagonal sundial "Johann Martin Willebrand in Augsp. 48" is on the underside, where the pole heights for 40 European cities are also given. The number "48", which is found in the signatures of several Augsburg sundial makers, denotes the polar altitude of Augsburg.
