Objects in the depot

Description

In the museum itself we only see a fraction of the museum collection, because the majority of the objects are now stored in the depot. The exhibition space and the depot are places that function quite differently. Whereas in the museum the individual piece is displayed and presented, in the depot it is protected from light and dust and stored out of sight - for example in rolling cabinet systems. (1).
Depots appear cold and sterile, but they safely shelter the museum's wealth on shelves and behind curtains (2).
A visit to the workshops reveals how the work of conservation and restoration functions. Here we encounter a practical and at the same time careful handling of the objects: inventory numbers create order and individual packaging ensures preservation "for eternity" (3).
Some objects are of such dimensions that they do not readily fit anywhere and their own wall mounts have to be constructed for their storage (4).
