Nursing
Description
Nursing staff have always played an important role in psychiatry. Nurses accompanied patients around the clock: they took care of basic everyday needs such as hygiene and nutrition, accompanied occupational therapy sessions, carried out medical instructions, supervised and recorded physical therapies and ensured compliance with the hospital rules. With the constant development of therapies, nursing staff also needed more and more new knowledge and skills. In 1957, the first school for psychiatric nursing in Switzerland was opened in Basel.
