The monastery buildings of the former nunnery St. Magdalena on the Steinenberg – here before the erection of the Elisabethenkirche in 1864 – were broadly used before being demolished in 1875: as a workhouse, an orphanage, storage place for wood, as a marketplace for horses and large livestock, as barracks for the city’s garrison, as lecture halls for the university and as a girls’ school.
