Objekt 3009
Mater Dolorosa from the Charterhouse of Freiburg im Breisgau
Description
This figure of Mary wearing a blue mantle was conceived as a counterpart to the Man of Sorrows. The sword piercing her breast symbolizes the pain she has to endure at the sight of her son’s sufferings. The coat of arms identifies the donor at her feet as Johann Wanner, a canon of Constance Cathedral.
