Marble table

The impressive white marble table top is decorated with various stone inlays. In its center is a circular hardstone inlay depicting a woman wearing a pearl diadem, pearl necklace Greek robe. At some distance from it follows a wreath of colorful oval stone inlays: marbles, limestones, granites, porphyries and others, arranged like the sample collection of a mineral cabinet. The stones are, on the one hand, reworked building and decorative stones used in antiquity, and on the other hand, "new" materials. The table with the precious inlays once stood in a house on Schützenmattstrasse in Basel.
