Object 1

Long trumpet in E flat by Jacob Steiger, 1578

Trumpets no.1 and 2 were given to the Basel councilmen on August 23, 1578 by "Jacob Steiger dem trommeter ... vereret."
They were listed for centuries in the inventory lists of the armory and came in 1874 from the Basel armory and in 1880 via the detour of the Canton Basel-Landschaft into the then "Medieval Collection".
The instruments are the earliest dated and completely preserved trumpets in bow form.
