Description
The lac bug
The Asian lac bug lives on trees and feeds on plant sap. It secretes lac, a resinous substance that forms a solid crust. This solid crust is scraped off the branches to obtain shellac. The average record is made of 15 per cent shellac made from the secretions of 12,600 bugs.
