Hand of Basel Cathedral Clock

Description

While one terminus is rendered as a crescent moon, the other takes the form of a hand pointing to the hour. Between them, in the middle of the hand, is a sun disk. The cathedral’s first turret clock, first mentioned in 1381, was installed in Saint Martin’s Tower by Heinrich Halder of Basel. It was later improved and moved to Saint George’s Tower by Johann von Konstanz in 1475.
