Objekt 2
Greengrocer
Description
In addition to the inhabitants of the city itself, Basel's streetscape was also shaped by people from the surrounding countryside who came to the city in pursuit of their occupations. The figure of a vegetable woman from Alsace selling her vegetables in Basel is based on a watercolor by Hieronymus Hess. The figure is described in the contemporary sales directory as a Neudörflerin, thus came from today's Village-Neuf north of Huningue.
