Gold enamel clock with leather over-case with gold piqué
Description
The dial shows Mars and Venus in fine enamel painting, the back of the case shows a mythological scene of a man handing a ring to a woman. The watchmaker Joseph Norris originally came from London, where he worked for the best watchmakers of his time. He worked in Amsterdam from 1677 to 1693 and is still known today primarily for his grandfather clocks. They are among the first grandfather clocks in the Netherlands.
